Do Not Work Out On An Empty Stomach
While research has shown that you could burn more fat when you exercise on an empty stomach this is not recommended for kickboxing. Kickboxing is a very physical exercise and when you do not have the energy that food provides you could find yourself lightheaded. You are also going to burn fewer calories because you will not be able to increase the intensity of the workout.
You should have a snack around 30 to 60 minutes before your kickboxing class. This could be a slice of bread with some peanut butter, a protein bar or an apple. You need to look at snack choices that offer you enough energy to get through your class.
Stay Hydrated During Class
As kickboxing is a very intensive workout which means that you need to stay hydrated in your class. You should avoid trying to drink a lot of water before the class because this could leave you feeling nauseous. You should look at taking small sips of water throughout the class to stay hydrated. You should have plain water, Vitamin Water or a sports drink such as Gatorade, but you need to avoid drinking protein shakes or juice during the class. These drinks should be left for after the class.
Go At Your Own Pace
A lot of people make the mistake trying to keep up with everyone else in their first class. This is something you should avoid because everyone has their own strengths and weaknesses. It is important that you work at your own pace because it is a class and not a competition. You also do not want to hurt yourself because you are trying to keep up with someone who has been in the class for longer.

Any quality studio will have instructors that will check on you throughout the class particularly if it is your first class. However, even with the attention, it is possible that the instructor will miss when you are having a problem. It is important that you ask the instructor questions if you are feeling unsure. There are no bad questions and you may find that there are other people in the class who want to know as well, but are too nervous to ask. If for any reason you do not feel comfortable asking the instructor you could ask more seasoned students but not your fellow newcomers.
